Dateline feature drives traffic to NAUPA site
11/8/2002
This site's a hit. Nine million of them, to be precise. After being featured on NBC's Dateline last week, the site we created for the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators logged 1 million visitors, 4.5 million page views and 9 million hits in the following 24 hours.
"Even with the huge spike in traffic, the site performed relatively smoothly when you consider the sheer volume of people visiting the site," said iNet CEO Michael Pierce. "The possibility of finding valuable assets makes this a popular site, so we developed it to handle heavy use. It's also a popular news story. The site has been previously featured on Dateline as well as NBC Nightly News,MSNBC.com, MSN.com and Fox & Friends. So we're accustomed to handling the traffic spikes that follow national exposure."
To accommodate the extra traffic, we implemented a special low-bandwidth version of the site with minimal graphics for faster download. We also anticipated that most users would want to use an overall "search" feature and routed them directly to that feature.
Monitoring traffic levels and preparing for anticipated spikes or seasonal increases is all part of the service we provide to our clients. That's why we maintain an ongoing relationship with our clients after their sites launch. We're here to accommodate your changing needs, including putting out the welcome mat for a million visitors. Through NAUPA, there are billions of dollars waiting to be put back into circulation in our economy. We're glad to be a vital part of putting these assets back into the hands of their rightful owners.
